Actress Janine Turner is quite the breath of fresh air!  I came across this brief but very interesting interview with her at National Review Online.

The Real Maggie O’Connell
Janine Turner on the new Northern Exposure

An NRO Q&A

Actress Janine Turner is known best for her role as the feisty and likable Maggie O’Connell on the hit TV show Northern Exposure. This fall, besides working on Friday Night Lights, she’s supporting the McCain-Palin ticket, even working as a spokeswoman for “Team Sarah,” a project of the Susan B. Anthony List Candidate Fund. Turner is also author of a book, released earlier this year, Holding Her Head High: 12 Single Mothers Who Championed Their Children and Changed History. She discusses Palin, Hollywood, motherhood, the culture of life, and more with NRO Editor Kathryn Lopez.

It’s always nice to discover new exceptions to the Hollywood=Godless and Liberal rule.  Turner has not only conservative political views, but also a strong faith and trust in God.

Her book sounds really good, too.  I think single mothers bear a horrible brunt of the Culture of Death’s wrath.  In our society, there’s a notion that single mothers will always fail and always be miserable and always be shunned and abandoned… unless they make the smart choice and abort their children.  That’s the “choice” that the “pro-choice” movement tends to give women, especially single women: either abort or be miserable for the rest of your life.  Turner herself proves how wrong that is, and I think it’s great that she shares her own story and that of women throughout history who have defied expectations and odds.  We need to hear these stories!
